PHILIP RADICE PHYSICAL THEATRE ATELIER

Mime Arts Academy is a professional training program in the Art of Mime within the Philip Radice Physical Theatre Atelier, under the artistic and educational direction of Matteo Cionini.

It offers mime courses and workshops, and comprehensive professional training that combines the teachings of Corporeal Mime by Etienne Decroux, Physical Theatre by Jacques Lecoq, and Nouveau Mime developed over 15 years of artistic and pedagogical research by Matteo Cionini.

The program is designed especially for people who want to have a comprehensive training in the Art of Gesture, providing tools for physical acting, non-verbal communication, and the creation and conception of mime-gestural works.

The combined method of Corporeal Mime, Physical Theatre and Nouveau Mime allows the development of a personal and unique style, providing unique opportunities for improvement, research, and artistic development. The goal of the Mime Arts Academy is to offer comprehensive training that can open up professional opportunities in the performing arts field at an international level:

It provides tools and stimuli for writing and creating performances and shows of MIME in any genre and style, with broad potential for international distribution

It trains extremely versatile performers capable of working in very different performance fields (Performance, Children’s Theatre, Street Theatre, Opera Theatre, Puppet Theatre, Prose Theatre, Clown…)

    WHY MIME?

The Art of MIME is an extremely varied, creative, simple, economical, and “strategic” art.

Here are seven good reasons to choose it:

    1. You can have everything, without having anything

With MIME tools, you can make the audience see scenery, landscapes, infinite objects, and impossible creatures…

You don’t need scenery to set up and transport!

    2. It’s an international language

MIME is an Art that speaks beyond languages.
It’s possible to tell universal stories, understandable everywhere.

If you love traveling, with MIME you can take your Art all over the world!

    3. It’s a poor art (and sustainable)

You don’t need money to create your acts or your shows.
You need time, dedication, care, and love.

The Art of Mime is the poorest Art of all, but at the same time, it’s extremely rich. And it’s undoubtedly the most sustainable!

    4. Its subject is the Essential

MIME has the ability to investigate and deeply narrate the essential dynamics of human beings.
It’s a fascinating and vast field of investigation and allows us to truly know ourselves.

When words are removed, what remains?

    5. It’s a versatile Art.

MIME is not a genre, nor a style: the stereotypical image we all have in mind is just one of the infinite possibilities!

MIME is an Art, and as such, it embraces many possible genres and as many styles as there are people practicing it.

    6. It’s a transversal Art

The study of MIME is also the study of the body, its expressive and communicative possibilities.

MIME is an Art that can dialogue with other performing arts: circus, dance, prose theatre, children’s theatre, illusionism, theatrical improvisation, clown

MIME can enrich and transform an Art, giving greater creative and narrative possibilities, or it can merge completely with it, giving life to something new.

    7. It’s an inclusive Art.

MIME can be an Art that breaks down language and hearing barriers!

It’s a universal language that can unite deaf and hearing people, and people from any background.

The program is designed especially for people who want to have a comprehensive training in the Art of Gesture, providing tools for physical acting, non-verbal communication, and the creation and conception of mime-gestural works.
